The Covid19 Catch-up Grant

The Catch-up Grant

The government has given schools an additional grant to support children whose attainment has fallen behind during lock down. We tested all children from Year 3 – 8 across our Trust in October and have clear data (shared with parents) about each child. The pattern of the data is clear – younger children from households who are in receipt of the Pupil Premium grant have regressed most strongly. This improves upward through the age groups and currently our Year 7 and 8 children are attaining at above National Average levels in reading..

How we intend to use the grant?

We will use the grant in the following ways:

  • To support additional tuition
  • To purchase the resources needed to raise standards
  • To enable us to work more closely with parents at home

How will the impact of this expenditure on the educational attainment be assessed?

We measure the impact of our catch-up provision using NGRT reading tests and online, nationally calibrated tests in maths and English. These are the tests we have used for the last 5 years and therefore we have comparable data. Children who have fallen below the standard we would expect of them (their ‘flight path’) will receive support
