The West Somerset Academies Trust is an educational charity, registered with companies house (Company number 7630164) .
Currently the Trust has 6 schools and 4 nurseries located in Minehead, Williton and Watchet. We work with children from 0 to 13 years of age and most of our children progress to The West Somerset College in Minehead from our Middle Schools. We have one of the largest catchment areas in England stretching from Devon across the top of Exmoor and right up to the Quantock Hills. As a result many of our children use school buses and we really value IT as a means of communicating with our parents.
You will find details about each school on their websites – the links to which are in the menu above. The schools in our Trust span the range of Ofsted ratings from Outstanding to Inadequate. However, the results from national tests this year were the best ever and the attainment of children leaving in Year 8 was above average in all core areas. This reflects the ambition of the Trust to provide world class education for all of our children.
The Trust is associated with the Diocese of Bath and Wells. Half of our Trustees are appointed by the Diocese and whilst not all of the schools have a Christian designation, the virtue of selflessness is valued in all our schools.
All staff are employed by the Trust and can be asked to work in different schools. This provides valuable experiences for our teachers and support staff as they build their careers.
Our CEO is Paul Rushforth. He has been a Headteacher for 24 years and an Ofsted inspector for 13 years. He is very well known locally and used to run Minehead Middle School, where he is based.
