West Somerset is situated on the edge of Exmoor National Park and close to the Quantock Hills, the first ever area of outstanding natural beauty, designated in 1956.

West Somerset Schools: Attendance Officer

37 hours per week, 39 weeks per year (term time, plus INSET days)

Actual starting salary: £21,785 per annum

Two year fixed term contract, extension beyond two years will be subject to securing additional funding

Anticipated start date: 1st September 2018

The successful post-holder will lead and manage the monitoring and improvement of student attendance across West Somerset Schools. By working across schools in West Somerset, this post holder will be able to ensure a joined up approach to child and family support.

You will need to have experience of supporting students, ideally within an educational setting. You will need experience of being able to deliver parental support and experience of working with multi-disciplinary agencies. You will have the ability to lead, manage and motivate others.

West Somerset Schools: Attendance Officer           JOB DESCRIPTION

Actual starting salary: £21, 785, 37 hours per week, 39 weeks per year (term time, plus INSET days)

Core Purpose

To lead and manage the monitoring and improvement of student attendance and punctuality across West Somerset Schools.

Key Accountabilities of the Post

The duties of this post could vary from time to time as a result of new legislation, changes in technology or policy changes. This job description is not a definitive list of tasks of the role.

 To lead and manage attendance and punctuality across West Somerset Schools.

 To monitor and raise student attendance and punctuality West Somerset Schools.

 To engage with and provide support to parents and carers to improve whole school attendance across West Somerset Schools.

 To advise school staff, families and other agencies on statutory requirements in relation to school attendance.

 To implement the West Somerset Behaviour Partnership attendance policy and procedures.

 To carry out regular attendance audits in West Somerset Schools.

 To implement a range of legal interventions with the area Education Welfare Officer.

 To promote the integration of those students across West Somerset Schools who have been absent due to fixed-term exclusion, school refusal, physical/medical reasons.

 To work directly with the attendance leads in all West Somerset Schools and the area Educational Welfare Manager to identify and work with hard to reach students and families.

 To visit students and families within the home context.

 To assist the West Somerset Schools and other agencies in the early identification of children missing education, attendance problems and to jointly develop and apply strategies designed to initiate improvements.

 To keep all liaise with attendance leads across all West Somerset Schools appraised of the progress of individual students.

General Duties

To attend mandatory training courses, e.g., Child Protection, Prevent, FGM, WRAP.

 To be responsible for the health, safety and welfare of themselves and others.

 To be responsible for the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare of children.

 The post-holder may, from time to time, be required to carry out other duties commensurate with the role.
